Abstract
SUMMARY The occurrence and compositions of some copper ore-minerals are described from the Swaledale orefield and the surrounding region in the north of the Askrigg Block, northern Pennines. Tetrahedrite was found at Hanging Lund Scar in the quartz-chalcopyrite ‘feeder zone’ and tennantite at Fell End Clouds in the adjacent zone. Trace element contents in chalcopyrite are compared with those from the Groverake Mine on the Alston Block. A high cobalt/nickel ratio is found in chalcopyrite throughout, but no tin. A very pure pyromorphite was found at Gunnerside, this is thought to be the first record in the Askrigg orefield.
