Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation between the content of serum trace elements in pregnant women and content in umbilical cord blood of children. Methods A total of 130 cases of singleton pregnancy admitted in Hebi People’s Hospital from February 2015 to February 2017 were selected. Serum zinc (Zn), magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), calcium (Ca) content in pregnant women and neonatal umbilical cord blood were detected and compared. The correlation of trace elements content in pregnant women’s serum and children’s umbilical cord blood was analyzed by Pearson correlation coefficient, and the correlation of trace elements content in pregnant woman with the height and weight of the newborn was analyzed. Results The level of serum Zn, Mg, Fe, Ca in pregnant women were (10.54±5.23) μmol/L, (0.85±0.16)mmol/L, (12.64±7.12) μmol/L, (2.27±0.13) mmol/L, respectively, which were lower than those in umbilical cord blood of children [(14.47±10.65) μmol/L, (0.93±0.21) mmol/L, (24.48±9.35) μmol/L, (3.56±2.01) mmol/L]; the serum Cu of pregnant women was (35.42±11.65) μmol/L, which was higher than that of the umbilical cord blood in children [(13.64±9.13) μmol/L], and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Pearson correlation analysis found that the content of serum Zn, Mg, Fe and Ca in pregnant women was positively correlated with the content in umbilical cord blood (P<0.05); and the content of Fe and Ca in pregnant women’s serum was positively correlated with the height and weight of the newborn (P<0.05). Conclusions The content of Zn, Mg, Fe and Ca in the serum of pregnant women is significantly related to the content of trace elements in umbilical cord blood of children, and the content of Fe and Ca in pregnant woman has a great influence on the height and weight of the newborn.
