Abstract
Summary Hermaphroditism has been thought to be limited to a narrow circle of species of a single genus. With the new or confirmed cases referred to in this paper, hemaphroditism is now known in four of the five families of eutardigrades, whereas it is unknown for heterotardigrades and particularly for marine species, from which eutardigrades presumably derive. Unisexuality (that is, thelytoky) is the most common situation among tardigrades of non-marine environments, bisexuality is less frequent, while hermaphroditism is sporadic but represented in various habitats.
