Abstract

The crystal structure of the Pr 5− x CO 2+ x B 6-type (space group, R3̄ m) was determined for twenty borides R 5− x Fe 2+ x B 6 and R 5− x Co 2+ x B 6, where R is a rare earth metal. As was shown for Tb 5− x Co 2+ x B 6, the 3(a) positions in the structure may be occupied by a statistical mixture of rare earth and transition metal atoms, and this means that the above-mentioned borides have regions of homogeneity. The variation in lattice parameters for the series of isotopic borides has been examined.
