Abstract
The interaction of cationic surfactants (alkyltrimethylammonium bromide) with Triton X-100 ( p-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl) poly (oxyethylene)) as nonionic surfactant has been investigated using potentiometeric and surface tension techniques. New methods have been used to evaluate the values of physicochemical parameters, concentration of free monomer of ionic and nonionic surfactants, degree of dissociation of ionic surfactant and the mole fraction of surfactants in mixed micelles. The comparison between these new techniques and previous methods indicates noticeable difference between the values of calculated synergetic parameters. The comparison between the values of cmc that have been measured by above two techniques, indicates a synergistic effect for C 18TAB (octadecyltrimethylammonium bromide) with Triton X-100 whereas a cosurfactant effect has been observed between C 12TAB (dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide), C 14TAB (tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide), C 16TAB (hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide), and Triton X-100.
