Abstract

In this paper, the potential use of the common marmoset, Callithrix jacchus, and the Gottingen minipig in the development and discovery of new pharmaceutical products is discussed. A brief description of the husbandry of both species is given as well as some of the purposes for which these species have been used. Whilst the marmoset has been found a satisfactory model of teratological and toxicological studies, the minipig has been found to be successful in pharmacological studies.
