Abstract
Summary. Three new species of Maytenus, M. drummondii, M. nguruensis & M. richardsiae are described for the 'Flora of Tropical East Africa', and one variety is raised to specific level as M. keniensis. With the publication of an account of the genus Maytenus Molino in northeast tropical Africa and tropical Arabia (Sebsebe 1985), the way is clear for the completion of the treatment of that genus for the 'Flora of Tropical East Africa' that the senior author has had in draft for some considerable time. First, however, it is necessary to describe and discuss four species endemic to the area of the Flora, three of which are new.
