Abstract

We read with great interest the article “Preoperative Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio As an Independent Prognostic Marker for Patients With Upper Urinary Tract Urothelial Carcinoma” by Azuma et al. 1 Azuma T. Matayoshi Y. Odani K. et al. Preoperative neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio as an ındependent prognostic marker for patients with upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma. Clin Genitourin Cancer. 2013; 9: 1-5 Google Scholar They aimed to investigate the significance of the preoperative neutrophil/lymphocyte (N/L) ratio and other perioperative variables for cancer-specific survival predictors in patients with upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma. They concluded that the preoperative N/L ratio is an independent prognostic predictor. The model based on the N/L ratio and pathologic factors can be useful in clinical practice. Preoperative Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio as an Independent Prognostic Marker for Patients With Upper Urinary Tract Urothelial CarcinomaClinical Genitourinary CancerVol. 11Issue 3PreviewMicro-Abstract Urothelial carcinoma of the upper urinary tract is a rare genitourinary malignancy. In this study, we retrospectively evaluated the significance of the preoperative neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in 137 patients with upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UUTUC). We found that the preoperative NLR could be an independent predictive marker. This finding is useful in clinical practice. Full-Text PDF
