Abstract

Studies of the effect of fast neutron irradiation ( E > 1 MeV, at 60°C) on the superconducting properties of V 3Ga of compositions spanning the A15 phase field have shown that V 3Ga exhibits an increasing susceptibility to damage with increasing Ga concentration. Annealing studies have shown that recovery from neutron damage occurs in two temperature ranges. Activation energies are estimated for these processes which are correlated with an unusual recovery of the lattice parameter. A simplified vacancy interstitial mechanism is proposed which could account for these results.
