Abstract

We report the results of neutron diffraction experiments on RRh 2Ge 2 (R = Nd, Tb, Dy, Ce) with ThCr 2Si 2-type structure compounds. All four order antiferromagnetically, the first three exhibiting structures consisting of ferromagnetic layers with moments perpendicular to the layers, which are believed to be characteristic of 4f-4f interactions mediated through hybridization with conduction electrons. At 1.5K, magnetic moments are localized on R ions only and are aligned along the tetragonal axis for Nd(3.0(1)μ B) and Tb(8.8(3)μ B) while for Dy (below 18K), they form an angle φ = 15(3) o with the c-axis(9.3(1)μ B). CeRh 2Ge 2 exhibits an incommensurate longitudinal static magnetization wave (k=[0,0,0.892]) with moment and propagation direction along the c-axis(m o=2.2(2) μ B ). The results are compared with those of the corresponding silicides.
