Abstract

We report the results of magnetic and resistivity measurements as well as neutron diffraction experiments on CeRh 2Ge 2 with ThCr 2Si 2-type structure compound. Below T N =15 K, CeRh 2Ge 2 exhibits an incommensurate longitudinal static magnetization wave with moment and propagation direction along the c-axis ( k=[0,0,0.892]). At 1.5K, magnetic moments are localized on Ce ions only with m O =2.15(17) μ B for the maximum amplitude of the sine wave modulation. The results are discussed in terms of the RKKY exchange interaction as also in terms of the effects that 4f hybridization can have on ordering. Comparison between all the isotypic cerium compounds already studied and a general discussion are given in conclusion.
