Abstract
Abstract A review of sd-shell data relevant to a determination of the E2 effective charge is presented. A best fit is obtained assuming a linear dependence of the isoscalar effective charge on mass number, consistent with the predictions of the schematic model. Theory and experiment also agree in yielding a ratio of neutron to proton polarisation charges close to two.
