Abstract
Abstract Cotton swabs moistened with 5% HNO3 are frequently used by police investigators to process a suspect’s hands for the presence of gunshot residue. A neutron activation analysis procedure is described for testing these swabs for barium and antimony, which are commonly found in firearm residues. The limitations of the method are also discussed.
