Abstract

Recent results for (π0,η) production in relativistic heavy ion collisions obtained with TAPS at SIS are discussed. Meson production probabilities follow simple scaling laws with available energy and number of participants. In contrast, the pion transverse momentum spectra show strong variations with system size, pointing out the importance of multi-step processes and final state interaction. The new dilepton project HADES at GSI is introduced. The physics programme of HADES includes the investigation of medium modifications of vector mesons as well as the investigation of electromagnetic form factors.
