Abstract
Abstract Neurothekeoma is a rare oral tumor. This tumor is usually asymptomatic and grows slowly. Only 42 cases have been reported in this localization and 95% occur in adults. We report a case of cellular neurothekeomas of the tongue in a 9-year-old female child. A contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance showed a submucosal lesion in the posterior third of the tongue that stretched deep into the intrinsic muscles. On immunohistochemical staining the lesion was negative for S-100 protein emphasizing their lack of relationship to nerve sheath myxoma and other nerve sheath tumors. Surgical treatment was successful without recurrences. Additionally, a literature review is done.
