Abstract

THE earliest lesion in the cerebellum of sheep affected with natural scrapie is a degeneration of the mossy terminals within the granular layer of the cerebellar cortex1,2. With this in mind we have made a combined electron and light microscope study of these early lesions. We used sheep from a supervised breeding population, the normal controls being genetically non-susceptible to natural scrapie3.
