Abstract

This paper attempts to incorporate transit-oriented development (TOD) into bus rapid transit (BRT) network planning. First, it proposes a qualitative node-line planning method based on TOD mode, which is used to design initial BRT networks; second, it establishes a quantitative mathematical optimization model, of which the optimization objectives are maximizing BRT network coverage and efficiency and the reasonableness of BRT leading urban expansion while using a genetic algorithm to solve the optimization problem; and finally, it presents an example to verify the proposed planning method. The result demonstrates that the method is effective and valid.
