Abstract

Cyber-security has always been a concern for enterprises, but with high-profile breaches of big corporations hitting the headlines in recent months, CIOs are starting to reassess their cyber-security strategies. While senior IT staff may be aware of the worrying extent of cyber-criminals' capabilities, troubling research from Intel Security shows warning signs that this security priority is not permeating to the staff that manage network systems on a day-to-day operational level.1Too many enterprises de-activate security functions in their firewalls in an effort to increase performance. That's because today's business landscape demands an 'always on' network.Performance and security must be considered hand-in-hand - forming a security strategy should include a detailed analysis of performance and business continuity and vice versa. And CIOs and CISOs should encourage full and open collaboration between operation and security staff, explains Ashish Patel of Intel Security.
