Abstract

This work describes an extremely simplified synthesis of Ag NPs using antioxidant-rich Nettle-root extract as a local natural source. The innate oxygenated phytochemicals facilitated the green reduction of Ag+ ions to corresponding Ag0 NPs and stabilized them by encapsulating them. This modification prevented the as-synthesized Ag NPs towards agglomeration and prepared in uniformly spherical in shape and in the range of 10–20 nm dimension. Physicochemical characteristics of the green synthesized Ag NPs were evaluated by advanced physicochemical techniques like UV–vis and FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM, TEM, EDX and elemental mapping study. Thein vitrocytotoxic and anti-gastric carcinoma effects of biologically synthesized Ag NPs against GC1415, AGS, GC1401, and GC1436 cancer cell lines were assessed. The anticancer properties of the Ag NPs could significantly remove cancer cell lines in a time and concentration-dependent manner by MTT assay. The IC50 of the Ag NPs were 183, 154, 250, and 276 µg/mL against GC1415, AGS, GC1401, and GC1436 cancer cell lines. The antioxidant activity of Ag NPs was determined by DPPH method. The Ag NPs showed the high antioxidant activity according to the IC50 value.
