Abstract

The essay retraces some of the main themes that led to the creation of the SIPED (Società Italiana di Pedagogia), founded in 1989 and still considered as the “common home” of Italian pedagogues. In particular, it highlights the pluralism (with respect to different ideological orientations, cultural perspectives and educational sectors: philosophical, historical, social, didactic, special, experimental and physical) that characterizes the Society as well as the cultural paradigms which, especially at the beginning, generated a discussion on the place and purpose of pedagogy within the broader field of education sciences.
