Abstract

"Haynes: Negative Space" illustrates how characters are isolated by their surroundings in Todd Haynes' films. By literalizing his frames-within-frames and manipulating negative space, I demonstrate the ways that Haynes’ films invite us to see settings as empty spaces that are antagonistic to the people who live within them.
