Abstract

(Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) – a device used successfully in the management of wounds with various etiologies). The effectiveness of negative pressure therapy has been demonstrated over time in more and more medical fields, expanding the number of indications for use. Negative pressure therapy has the role of stimulating wound healing, promoting exudate evacuation, stimulating tissue perfusion and promoting angiogenesis. The advantages of using negative pressure therapy extend to the patient’s quality of life as well as economically with the decrease of hospitalization costs. The current study is performed on a group of 40 patients aged between 25 and 76 years diagnosed with wounds in the upper and lower limbs (associated or not fractures), both acute and chronic, infected or not, as well as burn wounds of medium depth and decubitus beds. The following parameters were studied: sex, age, etiology of soft tissue defect, surgical treatment, level of sub-atmospheric pressure, days of hospitalization, complications of using NWPT, degree of patient satisfaction. The study confirms the effectiveness of using negative pressure therapy, showing the results obtained for different types of wounds.
