We construct a Grassmannian-like formulation for the potential KP-hierarchy including additional “negative” flows. Our approach will generalize the notion of a τ \tau -function to include negative flows. We compare the resulting hierarchy with results by Hirota, Satsuma and Bogoyavlenskii.
