Abstract
The d.c. current-voltage characteristics of single crystals of bilayered Ca 3Ru 2O 7 show “S shaped”, current-controlled, negative differential resistivity, the first such observation in heavy transition metal oxides. The non-ohmic behavior is restricted to the Ru-based antiferromagnetic non-metallic region of the complex temperature-magnetic field phase space. The effect is seen in related single crystal iridates.
