Abstract

This article explores the topic of indigenous ethnicity in Guatemala from its main importance for the state's subsistence. To get that, first of all, is needed to make a general landscape of the indigenous people in the country in order to know its human rights' situation. The first part of the article is a descriptive one and lets to make a deeper analisis about the relationship of this part of population with the Guatemalan state to identify the importance of the indigenous people from two angles: the guatemalan idiosyncrasy and self sustainability. These two points of view drive to agricultural researchs to estimate the contribution of the agricultural indigenous production to the feeding of the country, as well as the relationship of the indigenous people with the Guatemalan culture. Finally is going to number the more important politics that include the indigenous people that let them to intervene actively in the course of the country.
