Abstract

E039 Near-Surface Attenuation Estimation N. El Yadari* (Delft University of Technology) F. Ernst (Shell International Exploration and Production) & W.A. Mulder (Shell International Exploration and Production) SUMMARY An accurate estimate of the attenuation factor is vital for hydrocarbon exploration and reservoir characterization based on seismics because it affects both the amplitude and the phase of all arrivals. The accuracy of existing attenuation estimation methods is often insufficient. We propose a method to estimate near-surface attenuation based on visco-acoustic wave propagation modelling. Numerical simulations and experimental measurements demonstrate the performance of the method. EAGE 69 th Conference & Exhibition — London
