Abstract

P056 Data-Correlation for Velocity Analysis on Simple 1D Models T. van Leeuwen* (Delft University of Technology) & W.A. Mulder (Shell International Exploration and Production) SUMMARY Velocity analysis can be performed in the data and in the depth domain. In the data domain the leastsquares (LS) functional measures the difference between the measured and simulated data. This functional suffers from local minima and non-convexity. Hence the true velocity model will not be found if the initial model is too far away. In the depth domain migration-based methods rely on focussing the migrated image. These methods can converge to the true velocity
