Abstract

A V notch propagating along its bisector in two dimensional isotropic material is studied. Complex eigen expansion method is used to obtain eigenvalues and eigen functions. The singularity of the V notch is analyzed for different constant propagating speeds, and notch angles, and material constants; Poisson’s ratio, Young’s modulus and density. When the V notch is a crack, the order of the stress singularity is −0.5 and is not influenced by the propagating speed. The near-field solution is derived and stress distributions near the notch tip are analyzed.
