Abstract
In this letter, a leaky-wave focusing antenna (LWFA) with a tapered dielectric constant distribution is introduced. The main appeal of the structure is the simplicity and low cost by which the tapering is achieved in the fabrication process where the required effective dielectric constant profile is actualized by 3D printing in less than an hour using the commonly available and inexpensive polylactic acid (PLA) material. A detailed design method of the structure is presented and the desired focusing effect demonstrated by both simulation and experimental results at Ku band.
