Abstract

The authors designed, produced, and studied NbTi composite superconductors with Al, Al-alloy, or combined Al and Cu matrix, which have reduced weight. Wires of different design with 0.5-2.0 mm diameters were manufactured using hydrostatic extrusion. The weight reduction in comparison with the same filling factor copper matrix superconductor amounts to 20-40%. The overall critical current density at a 5-T magnetic field is (1.6-2.8)*10/sup 9/ A/cm/sup 2/. >
