Abstract

Abstract Our goal in this chapter is to summarize the theory and experiment set out in Chapters 7-11 with the aim of understanding the nature of excitations in superfluid and normal 4He. Is there an essential difference between the excitations in superfluid and normal 4He? Does the condensate play a clear role in the existence of a sharp excitation in super fluid 4 He at higher Q(Q≳ 1 Å−1) and do we need to have n 0(T) appearing explicitly in S(Q, ω) to explain the data? Can we learn from a comparison between liquid and solid 4He? We set out to answer these questions in this chapter.
