Abstract
The carbonaceous material formed on Al 2 O 3 in the course of the oxydehydrogenation reaction of ethylbenzene to styrene has been considered as the true catalytically active substance. The results of the various analyses made (burn-off experiments; temperature-programmed oxidation, ammonia desorption, ESCA, EPR and SIMS Studies) indicate that the groups containing oxygen in the active coke are quinone/hydroquinone and aroxyl/phenol
