Abstract

While the possible impact of acid rain on the acidity of freshwaters has received considerable attention over recent years, much less has been written about natural acidification processes. This review discusses the evolution of acid soils in regions susceptible to natural acidification of streams and lakes, and the factors which regulate water acidity other than atmospheric pollution.
