Abstract
Each quarter, Health Affairs reports on new developments in one of four sectors of the health sphere: national health care spending in Fall, health personnel in Winter, health status and health care utilization in Spring, and health care innovation in Summer. In this issue, Gerard Anderson and Jane Erickson of The Johns Hopkins Center for Hospital Finance and Management report on national medical care spending. Anderson has furnished these reports for Health Affairs for the past three years. Fitting into the theme of health expenditures is the DataWatch by George Schieber and Jean-Pierre Poullier of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris, who update their 1986 report of trends in international health care spending.
