Abstract

The Assemblies of God - ADs, according to the 2010 Census, the largest Pentecostal churches in Brazil, therefore, in theory, the most involved with racial issues, since the Pentecostal membership is mostly poorer and more black. The ADs, however, incorporated women, but did not discuss machismo; they welcomed the poor but did not question the structures of poverty. And, finally, did they integrate blacks, but did they not challenge racism? Did they? Why should the ADs have acted differently from the military system, the economic structure, other churches and, finally, Brazilian society itself, if this has always been the model? Furthermore, in the ADs there are no black people, there are only assembly members.
