Abstract

Highlights

  • This study compares patterns of migration between two so-called Brazilian classical Pentecostal churches, the Christian Congregation of Brazil (CCB) and the Assembly of God. Both arrived in the country around the year 1910, brought by immigrants that spent time in the United States, where they experienced the influence of the Pentecostal leader William Durham

  • While the Assembly of God had as its centre the northeast of Brazil to Rio de Janeiro, the CCB grew from São Paulo, as well as Paraná, located in the south and southeast of the country

  • A study of the CCB in the 80’s reveals that its members migrated, in general, within the defined state, and, as such, traveled for short distances, while the members of the Assembly traveled between states, facing long travel
