Abstract

The Irish Regiment of the Napoleonic army is one of its most interesting formations. Having fought in battles in Spain and the Netherlands, the unit formed part of the Great Army in Lower Silesia in 1813 and participated in the spring campaign, entering Wrocław at the end of May. After the end of the truce, the regiment fought with the Bóbr Army at Dębowy Gaj on 19 August, at Płakowice a day later, at Złotoryja on 23 August, and again at Płakowice on 29 August 1813, where it was decimated whilst fighting alongside the 17th Division. The unit was disbanded shortly after.
