Abstract

The use of stimuli-responsive nanocarriers provides an excellent opportunity of targeted drug delivery to predetermined anatomical site. Recently, several stimuli-responsive nanocarriers have been developed using advanced nanotechnology for either passive or active targeting. Stimuli-responsive nanocarriers release drug to specific sites in the presence of selective stimulus, e.g., pH, temperature, or redox potential. Targeted drug delivery using these smart delivery systems can overcome some of the systemic and intracellular delivery barriers. pH-sensitive nanocarriers are developed by suitable modifications in the simple nanocarriers to make them responsive to any variation in acidity of environment to release drug molecules. This book chapter describes about pH-sensitive/responsive nanocarriers for targeted drug delivery at predetermined environment.
