Abstract

A nanosized polyoxometalate-based inorganic–organic hybrid material, NaH 8[PDA] 5 [PW 9Co 3O 37]·13H 2O (PDA= p-phenylene diamine), has been synthesized and characterized by the elemental analyses, thermogravimetric analysis, 31P solid-state MAS NMR, Far-IR, X-ray photoelectron spectrum (XPS), UV–VIS spectra and Powder X-ray diffraction. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) micrograph of the hybrid material indicates that the size ranges of the nanoparticles are between 20 and 50 nm. A catalytic probe reaction of the oxidation of acetaldehyde into acetic acid with H 2O 2 using the hybrid material as the catalyst was performed, showing that the hybrid material has a high oxidative catalytic activity in the reaction.
