Abstract

Due to its tremendous impetus of modulating metals into their nanosize, nanotechnology is a combined influence of microelectronics, medical imaging and computer aided engineering and manmade polymers. Nanoparticles have gained much interest due to their high surface volume ratio. This leads to the alteration in its mechanical, thermal and catalytical properties. The most easily accessible source of nanoparticle production is the use of biological materials due to their abundant availability, reduced cost, more defined methods to synthesize nanoparticle and being eco friendly. Thus “green synthesis” of nanoparticles leads to the pollution free and non toxic utilization. Present study deals with stem and leaf extracts obtained from Verbesina encelioides were used for the first time to synthesize nanoparticles. On challenging the extract obtained from the stem and leaf with 10 mM of AgNO3 solution the change in color from greenish to brownish red was observed. The screening and characterization of synthesized silver nanoparticles was performed by UV visible spectroscopy, SEM, X-ray diffraction and FTIR analysis. The potentiality of synthesized silver nanoparticles in antimicrobial activity was demonstrated.
