Abstract

Generally, the emulsion of AM/AA-Na/AMPS-Na aqueous solution and kerosene was prepared by direct emulsification in which the surfactant mixture was initially placed in the oil phase and then the water phase was added. Transitional phase inversion (TPI) emulsification has been widely used for preparation of ultrafine emulsions, but there is no report about the P(AM/AA-Na/AMPS-Na) nanoemulsion obtained by polymerization of TPI emulsion. In this article, first, the emulsions of AM/AA-Na/AMPS-Na aqueous solution and kerosene were prepared by four different methods, then, the properties of different emulsions and the corresponding results of polymerization were compared. The P(AM/AA-Na/AMPS-Na) nanoemulsion was obtained by the polymerization of TPI emulsion. Compared to the P(AM/AA-Na/AMPS-Na) emulsion obtained by direct emulsification, the P(AM/AA-Na/AMPS-Na) nanoemulsion obtained by the polymerization of TPI emulsion has higher molecular weight and better freeze–thaw stability and thermal stability.
