Abstract

Red phosphors are integral element of a phosphor converted white light emitting diodes (pc-WLEDs) which significantly impacts the color rendering index (CRI) and correlated color temperature (CCT) and thus provides a white light suitable for indoor applications. Red Light emitting Eu doped Y2Zr2O7 (YZOE) has been synthesized by two different synthesis methods viz. gel combustion (GC) and solid-state route (SS) wherein the former yielded nanocrystalline and latter leads to bulk YZOE. By virtue of lower light scattering, better electron-hole overlap integral and lower symmetric surrounding, nano YZOE displayed better photoluminescence properties in terms of emission intensity, photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and excited state lifetime compared to its bulkier counterpart.
