Abstract

Abstract Nano-lubrication is an innovative mechanism used to reduce the friction and excessive wear of the component that are in relative motion. It involve the inclusion of the nano-additives in the lubricating oil that help to improve the anti-friction, anti-wear and extreme pressure performance of the conventional as well as currently used lubricating oils. Solid lubricants as well as the extreme pressure additives are mostly used as the nano particles additives to improve the lubricity and the overall properties of the lubricating oil. The scope of the study is to examine and identify the best possible nano additive with PAO-4 base lubricating oil. In this present study Graphite, Graphene Nano Platelets and Hexagonal-Boron Nitride are used as the nano-additive particles to improve the nano-lubrication and tribological performance for Eutectic Al-Si alloy-Chromium steel chromium plated tribopair. From the results it is observed that improvement in the overall tribological properties is due to the exceptional lubricating behaviour of the nano particles.
