Abstract

ABSTRACT Tripolymeric nanocomposites of polyacrylic acid (PAA), polyethylmethacrylate (PEMA), and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) are synthesized by emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization technique with nano boron nitride (BN). The exfoliation of BN platelets is achieved due to increase in basal spacing. It is seen that nano BN creates a torturous path with matrix to arrest the penetration of gas. As a result of good dispersion of nano BN, the permeability of materials is reduced by five times. The significant lowering of permeability with combined improvement in tensile strength and thermal stability enable the materials for potential packaging applications.
