Abstract
The fixation and analysis of the agricultural lexis in the dialects of the Middle Bug area continues to solve the actual problem of modern linguistics: preservation and in-depth study of the dialect vocabulary of the Ukrainian dialect continuum. The purpose of the article is vocabulary-semantic analysis of the names of agricultural buildings for keeping domestic animals in the Middle Bug area dialects that function at the border of the South-Western and South-Eastern dialects of the Ukrainian language. During the research, general scientific methods of analysis, synthesis and observation, descriptive method and method of quantitative calculations were applied. Among the special linguistic methods involved questionnaires and interviews, the method of component analysis, comparative and lingvo-geographic methods. Records and notes of the dialect speech done in 74 settlements of the Middle Bug area during 2013–2016 are the source of the practical material. The numbering of the villages, urban settlements and towns is used in the article. The full names are listed at the end of the work under the title "The list of the examined settlements and their numbering" to represent the areal distribution of the analyzed dialect units. The examined names and the dialect speech examples are represented by means of the common phonetic transcription for recording the Ukrainian literary and dialect speech (the transcription is presented in the first volume of the Atlas of the Ukrainian Language). The names widespread in Middle Bug area dialects are analyzed. In total 79 names (including word-combinations and phonetic variants of some words) denoting agricultural buildings for corresponding purposes are analyzed. Different names of buildings in individual and collective farming characterize the analyzed dialects. For example, lexemes хл′іў, саǀраĭ, ǀшопа are peculiar to individual farming. Names of buildings in collective farming often derive from names of animals for which they are intended: коǀн′ушн′а ← к’ін′, свиǀнарник ← свиǀн′а, куǀр’атник ← ǀкурка and others. The fixed lexemes function in the literary language though differ in phonetics, vocabulary and semantics that confirm their belonging to the Eastern Podillian and Western Steppe dialects of the South-Western and South-Eastern groups of dialects of the Ukrainian language respectively. Prospects for further research are the continuation of the study of the Ukrainian dialects of the Middle Bug on the material of the agricultural vocabulary.
