Abstract

Abstract Nailbed capillaroscopy is a basic and non-intrusive strategy for finding and examining different small scale vascular variations from the norm that happen in different systemic connective tissue sicknesses (SCTD), as in systemic sclerosis (SSc), it is also helpful in identifying cardiovascular anomalies, such as Raynold’s phenomena. The light source in this design comprises of 9 LEDs. Thus the light is focused onto the region of interest on the nailbed, so that it can be seen on the computer screen with the help of a camera that is fitted onto the eyepiece of the microscope. The resultant image is subjected to processing using MatLab software so that the features of the capillary vessels can be obtained. The features that are taken into consideration are capillary density, capillary width, arterial and venous limb diameter, giant loops, avascular region, Tortuosity. This allows the user to compare the obtained result with the normal values. Nail Bed capillaroscopy has a decent positive predictive value and also an especially high negative predictive value in the qualification of essential and auxiliary RP amid its beginning times.
