Abstract

This paper presents objective and subjective evaluations of eight types of side stage enclosures for orchestra performances. Three different methods are applied in this study; the ray tracing computer simulation, the acoustical scale model experiment, and the auditory experiment by pared comparison. Results are as follows: The acoustic characteristics of stage enclosure shapes can be determined by comparing remained and radiated energy within 80 msec. Preferred stage shapes vary interms of the playing, conducting, and listening positions.
