Abstract

On the operation of 70t UHP furuaces in Chita Plant, Daido Steel, carbon injection is applied for the reduction of (FeO), energy saving and improved heating efficiency. In this paper, the effect of the injection method on the reduction rate of (FeO) is investigated relating to the carbon quality, size of carbon powder, and injection rate. Moreover the relation between waste gas information and the degree of slag reduction could be confirmed. The results obtained are as follows.1. Volatile matters in carbon give a big influence on the reducing reaction. In the case of higher content of volatile, the reduction determining step is chemical reaction, while in lower volatile, the step comes to mass transfer of (FeO) in the slag.2. The reduction rate depends on the basicity of molten slag. The higher the basicity becomes, the greater reduction rate will be obtained.3. Catch carbon for a rapid operation is found to be possible by utilizing the information from waste gas.
