Abstract
70t VCR (Vacuum Converter Refiner) was installed in Chita Plant, Daido Steel Co., Ltd. in November 1991. VCR process, which was developed in the modified 20t AOD at Shibukawa Plant, makes it possible to replace dilution process of AOD with vacuum process at the final stage of decarburization and the following slag reduction period.Ultra low carbon and nitrogen stainless steel can be produced easily in 70t VCR process with several operating improvements such as heat recovering during vacuum treatment and preventing [N] pick-up during tapping.The production of stainless steel in Chita Plant reaches more than 16000t a month, including the ultra low carbon and nitrogen stainless steel which had been produced in VOD process at Hoshizaki Plant.Some characteristics in refining and operating improvements of 70t VCR in Chita Plant are described.
