Abstract

In the context of data sharing and the advancement of open science, this study analyzes the functional requirements of scientific data metadata based on the requirements of scientific researchers for data resources, so as to provide valuable insights for the construction and enhancement of Chinese scientific data metadata standards. We gathered the functional requirements of scientific data metadata from 30 researchers in the research process during semi-structured interviews, and constructed a model for the functional requirements of scientific data metadata based on the information behavior theory. The findings show that the functional requirements of scientific data metadata are significantly affected by individual value perceptions and discipline differences, which can be reflected in the process of scientific data exchange and sharing. This paper provides insights and suggestions for the construction of scientific data metadata from three aspects: demands of researchers, information behavior process and data life cycle theory.
